Debt Assist: Credit Report

Credit Report
Our Debt Assist experts can help you by communicating directly with the Credit Bureau on your behalf. They will also help you find an affordable way to pay off your debts.

When you apply for credit, the creditor will first check your credit history or credit report, which is kept by the Credit Bureau. If you get rejected for credit because you have a record of not paying back your debts, this is called “blacklisting”.

Avoid blacklisting

When it comes to debt, prevention is always better than cure. That’s why it’s always best to:

  • Pay your bills on time.
  • Let Debt Assist or your creditor know if you won’t be able to make your credit payments on time (for example, if you have been retrenched).
  • Let your creditor know if you have moved/changed your address.
  • Contact Debt Assist if you receive any kind of communication (letters/SMS/emails) from your credit provider. Ignoring your debt is never a good idea.
